- Cultural worker, teacher and theatre practitioner is the founder of Avikal ‘Initiative for life and Active learning’. As a teacher he is engaged with many initiatives, working in the field of alternative education, child welfare, environment, social work, various art forms and special education. Alok Ulfat was born in India and received his M.A in English literature. He studied speech & drama and completed his teacher training at Emerson College, U.K. (4 years). He has served at the National School of Drama, New Delhi, and at the Film and Television Institute of India. As an extensive traveler, he has taught in schools, conducted workshops, acted and directed in India, England, Scotland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Hungary, Canada, Thailand and Malaysia. Alok Ulfat Centre for Performing Arts, Avikal Theatre Company and Rang Himalaya Festival are the outcome of Alok Ulfat’s many years of soul searching, widespread adventures and studying in various centers for learning. He has built Avikal – Centre for Art and Culture in Dehradun in the north India and presently working to create performing arts school in Mumbai. Alok is engaged in designing, conducting and developing courses for actors, teachers, social workers and professionals from corporate sector. Alok Ulfat continues his journey as a passionate learner and a teacher and wishes to contribute to a beautiful, greener and united planet.
