Bio
Research Director of the National Council of Research (CNR) and then of the National Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics (INAF). He has coordinated the Italian contribution to the onboard scientific instruments of two astronomical satellites of the European Space Agency: the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) launched in 1995 and Herschel, launched in 2009. He contributed to the publication of about 200 scientific papers on international journals. Over the past twenty years, he has dealt with energy and environmental issues and he has studied the mechanisms that made life possible on Earth and those that can destroy it. He has been member of the scientific committee of the "Energy Festival” and, from 2011 to 2020 he was member of the commission of "Valutazione d'Impatto Ambientale" (Environmental Impact Assessment) of the Italian Ministry of Environment. He has published the books: "Il caso Terra" Mursia, 2007; "Beyond the Stars" World Scientific 2013.
