The concept of “Great Silence,” often associated with the Fermi Paradox, confronts us with a profound question: why, despite the vastness of the universe, have we not yet detected signs of extraterrestrial civilizations? This enigma invites deep reflection not only on the nature of intelligent life but also on the future of humanity. This talk will explore various explanations for the silence, from the possibility that advanced civilizations are self-destructive, to the idea that they may intentionally avoid contact or exist in ways we cannot comprehend. We will examine what these possibilities imply for our own technological and societal development. Could “The Great Silence” be a warning about the sustainability of advanced civilizations, including our own? Or might it suggest a future where humanity transcends its current understanding of existence? By analyzing this cosmic mystery, we gain insights that challenge our assumptions about progress, survival, and the long-term prospects for intelligent life—both on Earth and beyond.
