The meaning of life and origin of consciousness

Based on the current scientific view, consciousness has been considered an epiphenomenon of the operation of the brain with no causal power. Yet no mechanism has ever been found to explain how consciousness might emerge from the brain. In a recent paper by G.M. D’Ariano and F. Faggin, the first theory of consciousness and free will has been advanced. According to this theory, consciousness is quantum, life is quantum-and-classical, and information is classical. Quantum information, which is described by a pure quantum state that cannot be cloned, describes an inner experience which is definite and private, knowable only by the system that is in that state. This theory gives to consciousness and free will the status of fundamental properties of nature changing completely the interpretation of quantum physics.
