At the origin of Tantric India (V century A.D.), the myth of the Mother Goddess’ dismemberment is reported quite extensively in Indian popular literature (Purāṇa). By analysing its hidden symbolism, we’ll have the opportunity to shed some light upon the deep meaning of the Feminine role in Religious India, especially with regard to the multifaceted value of the original Great Goddess as the ultimate purveyor of life and death.
